SPECIAL NEEDS
& DISABILITY
“As parents of a special needs son, my wife Liz and I understand the challenges you encounter. One of the things we learned in our forty year journey is the utter importance of great friends and a really good, caring church. If you are special needs or the parent of a special needs child, I know you can find both of these wonderful benefits here at Burke Community Church.”
Marty Baker, Senior Pastor
Welcome to the
Special Needs Ministry

Serving special needs and showing the love of Jesus so that all may worship.
We would love for you to get to know us and we hope you plan to visit soon!

Special Needs Kids
Our mission is to serve children with special needs or disabilities, showing them the love of Jesus so that all may worship. Our church’s desire is for all to know and love God, and experience His love. We will support children to the best of our ability on Sunday mornings through our special needs self-contained classrooms and peer classrooms through partnerships with volunteer buddies and volunteer teachers.
Buddy Program
We provide one on one support with a long-term buddy that partners with your child with special needs. They will support your child throughout their class time and assist them in all activities.
Respite Night
Throughout the year we offer a night of respite to families involved in our Sunday morning special needs class. Children with special needs and their siblings are offered a safe space to have fun, play and relax while their parents have a night out. Registration is required.
Special Needs Classroom
A self-contained classroom is available for children who need extra care. Loving volunteers provide a safe and welcoming environment while children enjoy a video Bible lesson, worship music, and a lesson activity.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Special Needs Ministry at Burke Community Church. We love all kids and want to create a safe and God honoring environment for everybody involved.
One of the ways we seek to keep kids safe is to use this application/screening process. If you’re interested in volunteering please fill out our Volunteer Application Form. Once completed, you will receive an email with the next steps in the screening process.
What special needs do we accommodate?
Our volunteer-based team loves kids and strives to serve as many families as possible. Please fill out this form with details about what support your child needs. Our Kids Pastor will evaluate whether our volunteers can safely accommodate your child.
Are there any events for my child with special needs?
Our respite nights throughout the year provide respite time for parents who have children with special needs. We also provide support for your child during the Fall Festival and Christmas Eve Services.
Do volunteers have a background check?
All volunteers, teen and adults, go through a complete application process before serving in our classrooms. Adults have a thorough background check completed and participate in Sexual Abuse Awareness Training. All volunteers review and agree to abide by our General Practices. At least two volunteers must be present in a classroom at all times.
